Typhoon Incoming!

A typhoon makes landfall tonight, and you’re the volunteer getting the street ready. You get a few hours and not much money, and every job takes time.

It starts on Wangchao Street. Shutters first, or the scooters? Grandma’s orchid has to come inside, and of course Mr. Lin parked his car right under the big tree.

Next is the Xingqiao night market, a narrow lane full of stall tents with lanterns strung across it. The wind blows straight up the lane. You can fold the tents away or sandbag their legs, just not all of them in time.

Haifeng Street, on the corner of a fishing harbour, is the hard one. After the eye passes, the sea comes up over the quay. Sandbag the shop doors, and give the boats more than two lines.

Once the storm hits you can only watch, and the physics does the rest. At dawn you get a damage report with photos. All three streets are open from the start. If it’s your first time, begin with Wangchao.
